Zero McKenna Celtic FC Discussions as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Wales
Ipswich's manager and Wales head coach have been connected with the Celtic manager position
Ipswich Town's their manager says he has had "no conversations" with Celtic about their managerial vacancy, while Wales national team manager Craig Bellamy is committed to seeing out his team's World Cup campaign.
Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.
McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club
The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.
The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.
"I have not had such conversations," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.
"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.
"I have a unique job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my awareness."
Context and Agreement Aspects
It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.
"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and declare what they were, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."
McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.
"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!
"I approach this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."
The Welsh Coach's Position
The former striker represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the ongoing World Cup campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.
The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.
Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, even if they fail to finish as Group J second place.
Given his present position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
