This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
