The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
