Recent Oil Plant Attack Demonstrates 'No Protected Areas in Russia's Far Hinterland'

Ukraine's UAVs have struck Russia's Bashneft processing plant in Ufa, situated approximately 1,400 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, causing explosions and a blaze, as reported by a source in Ukraine's SBU.

This marks the latest intelligence deep strike in the region in the last month. Those strikes illustrate that there are no secure zones in the far hinterland of the Russian state.

Ukrainian President Urges Trump to Facilitate Truce in Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Donald Trump to broker peace in Ukraine during a telephone conversation on the weekend.

"Provided that a conflict can be ended in one region, then certainly additional conflicts can be ended as well, covering the Russian war," Zelenskyy stated, hailing Trump's "outstanding" Middle East ceasefire plan and urging the President to pressure the Moscow into talks.

Russian Attacks Take Victims in Ukraine

Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory resulted in the deaths of several civilians on the weekend and caused blackouts to parts of the south Odesa area, as stated by local sources.

Two civilians lost their lives inside a religious building in Kostyantynivka when it was targeted, according to regional officials.

In the Russian frontier area of the Belgorod region, a lorry operator was lost his life by a drone assault, per local officials.

Power Repair Efforts in the Capital

Efforts continued on Saturday to restore power in the Ukrainian capital, after strikes by Moscow.

Energy had been restored to more than 800,000 residents by the weekend and the major utility provider said the main efforts to recover electricity was complete though some outages remained.

Anti-Aircraft Operations and Drone Jamming

Ukraine's air defences neutralized 54 out of seventy-eight Russian drones sent targeting Ukraine during the night, the aerial defense command said on Saturday.

Russia's defence ministry claimed it eliminated forty-two Ukrainian drones over the country's airspace.

Cuba Rejects Allegations of Providing Soldiers to Ukraine

The Cuban government on the weekend rejected US allegations it has deployed soldiers to engage in the Ukraine war, while stating officials in Havana "do not have precise data about Cuban nationals" participating "on their own" or "within the troops of both sides".

The foreign ministry in the capital announced twenty-six Cubans had been sentenced to jail sentences from 5 to 14 years for mercenary involvement since last September when reports spread of Cubans being sent to the frontlines in the conflict.

Surrender Initiative Initiative Reports Details on Cuban Involvement

The program, a Ukrainian government initiative that urges enemy combatants to lay down arms, stated in May: "We reliably know the identities and information of one thousand and twenty-eight individuals who entered into agreements with the Russian armed forces in the past two years."

The Cuban foreign ministry said of Cuban nationals who might be engaged: "Undeniably that none of them have the encouragement, allegiance, or authorization of the government in Havana for their activities."

Kin of individuals who left for the Russian Federation in 2023 told international media at the time that their loved ones had been deceptively recruited through promotions on social media.
