JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Strives to Resolve the Anime's Most Significant Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an brand-new movie. Instead, the recent film from the JuJutsu Kaisen supernatural series is a compilation of the anime's second season stitched together with the first two episodes of its third season, which launches the Culling Games narrative from the original manga. This positions Execution, which recently received a fresh preview, the earliest way to watch the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the anime series and is assigned by jujutsu officials to eliminate his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight takes place for the first time on the big screen, and if the animators at the production house have a treat as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for audiences this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the gift that we've been waiting for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap episodes" from the second season is widely regarded as among the best moments in animated series lore, in spite of all the controversy in last year when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the animation team were enduring harsh deadlines to the point, and the broadcast edition that aired at the time was unfinished and supposedly not what the artists initially intended.

The Legendary Fight

The scene features a much-hyped confrontation between two powerful sorcerers, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It boasts innovative art style, excellent direction, and intense action. A follow-up Blu-ray release allowed the team to add additional scenes to flesh out the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a moment so epic has to be watched on the largest display with the best presentation possible.

Season Two's Achievement

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the Thunderclap episodes were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for multiple weeks in the series' fanbase. Fans were aware of the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People clamored to see if the disc version, launched in mid-March, would feature extra content to the fight or to see if it was improved in any way, and were overjoyed to see exactly that, alongside tone adjustments, more motion, and different color grading.

The Film's Potential

But the home video can only touch up what has previously shown in the television version, whereas the film has the opportunity to properly present the moment with further changes and completely new animated sequences.

A Crowning Achievement

Currently, these episodes serve as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the animation team, particularly given the controversy they underwent at the time. It's drawn the focus of viewers all over the planet, and the Culling Games arc is a highly awaited story of the coming year. If the production company wants to kick off the year perfectly, showcase the show's top scene once again in theaters with the best interpretation we've experienced so far.
