Fans Demand Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are calling for that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile includes videos of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more response on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two very different witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
