Ex- Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a former doctor has been charged with performing sexual assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
